Meet Your New Family Physician

Dr. Michael McKinney

“I believe the best medicine happens when a doctor and patient truly know each other. For years, I practiced in a system where I was required to see many patients in a day, leaving me with only minutes to listen to each person. I felt like I was practicing 'conveyor-belt medicine,' and my patients felt like numbers.”

I opened True Health Direct to change that. As a resident of Albuquerque, I wanted to open a practice that felt like a part of the community—a place where you can text your doctor when your child has a fever or sit down for an hour to discuss your long-term health goals. By removing the insurance middleman, I’ve returned to the reason I became a doctor: to build lasting relationships and provide the high-quality, unhurried care you deserve.

At True Health Direct, you aren’t just a chart—you’re a partner in health!

Frequently Asked Questions

Answering the Doubts

Q: Do you take insurance?

A: No. By opting out of insurance contracts, we work directly for you, not the insurance company. This allows us to offer lower prices and more time.

Q: Can I use my HSA/FSA?

A: Most patients can use their HSA or FSA funds for membership fees, but we recommend checking with your tax professional to be certain.

Q: What if I need a specialist?

A: We will coordinate your care and help you find the best specialists in the area. Often, because we have more time to manage complex issues, we can reduce the number of specialist visits you actually need.

Q: What if I’m healthy and rarely see a doctor?

A: DPC is even better for the healthy! We focus on longevity and prevention. Plus, if you do get a sinus infection or a minor injury, you can text us and get care immediately rather than waiting at an Urgent Care for hours.
